Tuxedo Measurement Guide
The best
way to use this measurement guide is to print it out. Take it to a tuxedo store
nearest to you and have them fill it out as a courtesy. Especially, ask them if
you can try on a coat to make sure it is the correct size. This will reduce
altering the tuxedo when you come in for the final fitting for the tuxedo.
If you are not able to do this, please follow the following
guidelines. A helper will make it easier for you. Use a cloth measuring tape not
a ruler or metal tape.
These are helpful
guidelines for measuring for a tuxedo. We will need the following information:
- Coat Size
- Waist
- Out Seam
- Over Arm
- Chest
- Neck
- Sleeve
If you know your suit coat size (not sports coat), that is great. If not, by giving us the
other measurements this will help us to determine your coat size. Coat size
examples are 43S, 44L, 45XL not small, medium or large.
- Waist: Tuxedo pants have a longer rise than most jeans do. They are
intended to be worn higher on the waist. To find the proper fit, measure
just above the hipbone across the navel. Insert a finger between the
measuring tape and this is your waist measurement.
- Out-Seam:
With shoes "off", stand straight up, place tape on the right hip at waist
level with navel and extend tape down the side of leg all the way to the
floor. This is your out seam.
- Chest: Measure all the way around your chest high beneath your underarm.
Add a finger between the tape and this is your chest measurement.
- Over-Arm:
The over‐arm
is measured with coat off. Measure around the body in the same manner and
position where the chest was measure, but this time include both arms. This
is your over‐arm measurement.
- Neck: Measure around the neck at the collar level with a finger in
between the tape and neck. This is your neck measurement.
- Sleeve: With your arm straight down at your side, place the tape at the
base of the neck in the back on your spine, run the tape across the top of
the shoulder and down the arm to about one inch below your wrist. This is
your sleeve length.
